Mis-priced inventory can lead to a bad experience on Mana Pool. For example, if a customer uses the Cart Optimizer, they may find their shopping carts or orders end up with items that they felt they were misled into buying, or in danger of buying on accident.
Mana Pool may restrict you from selling and/or hide inventory that is greatly mis-priced.
Guidelines
Due to the nature of the collectible card market, there can be a large variance in pricing. Sometimes cards are quickly going up or down in price, and sometimes cards are very rare and have few listings. Savvy sellers may price their cards much differently than other sellers. So, there is no hard and fast rule for when a product is overpriced.
However, products are almost certainly over-priced based on factors like:
- there are many other listings currently priced at a small fraction of the mis-priced listing
- the historical sales for the product always sell for a small fraction of the mis-priced listing
Certainly, sometimes it may make sense to list a card for a multiple of the next lowest or historical price, especially when the product doesn't have much competition, but products should not be priced in a way that a rational buyer may feel misled or predated upon by an extremely high pricing strategy.
Don'ts
- don't list products at a high price because you haven't gotten around to determining the correct price yet, and are using a price like "$999.99" as a placeholder
- don't list products systematically high in hopes of getting a sale to a buyer who isn't paying attention
